How to Repair Your Pressure Washer Pump:

Posted by Pressure Tek on Sep 25th 2024

1️⃣:  Diagnose the Issue

- Loss of pressure: This could be due to worn-out seals or valves.
- Leaking pump: Leaks usually stem from worn gaskets, seals, or piston packing.
- Unusual noises: A grinding or screeching sound may point to damaged pistons or loose bolts.
- If you are experiencing one of these issues, you’ll likely need to replace some key components inside the pump.

2️⃣:  Disassemble the Pump

- Turn off the power to your pressure washer and disconnect any hoses.
- Drain the pump oil if you're planning to replace any oil seals or crankcase components.
- Remove the pump head to access the internal components like valves, seals, and pistons.

3️⃣:  Identify the Required Repair Kit

The next step is to determine the specific parts you need based on the issue you diagnosed. Pressure Tek offers a variety of pump repair kits compatible with many popular models.

Here’s a breakdown of some of the replacement kits and the pumps they are compatible with:

General Pump Kit 01: Contains 6 check valves and o-rings. Fits pump models like T9721, T9731, T9211, TS1021, TS1011, TT9111, and others. This kit is ideal for fixing valve-related issues.

General Seal Kit #69: Designed for pumps like TS1021, TS1011, TS1511, and HP4040, this kit is a common solution for repairing worn seals that cause leaks or pressure loss.

GP Pump Packing & Seal Kit 170: This kit works for General Pump models TSF2019 and TSF2021 and includes everything you need to repair worn-out packing and seals.

GP Pump Kit 169: Fits General Pump models TSF2021, TSF2019, TSF2219, and TSF2219, helping to address valve and seal issues with these specific pumps.

4️⃣:  Replace the Faulty Parts

After identifying and purchasing the correct repair kit, it’s time to replace the faulty parts.

Valves: If you're experiencing low pressure, your valves may be worn out or clogged. Remove the old valves and o-rings using the kit and replace them.

Seals and O-rings: Leaks around the pump head or piston area usually indicate worn seals or o-rings. Replace the seals by removing the old ones and installing new ones from your kit. For General Pump models like the TS1021, Seal Kit #69 is specifically designed for such repairs.

Pistons: If you notice damage to the pistons, consider replacing them with new ones from your repair kit. Pistons can wear over time, causing loss of power or leaks.

For example, if you're working with a T9721 pump, you might need Kit 01 for valves, Kit 23 for oil seal pistons, and Kit 19 for packings. Refer to your pump model and match it with the appropriate kit from our collection.

5️⃣:  Reassemble the Pump and Test

Once you've replaced the necessary parts:

- Reassemble the pump by following the reverse steps from the disassembly process.
- Fill the pump with fresh oil, especially if you've replaced the oil seals or any crankcase components.
- Reconnect the hoses and power source.
- Test the pump to ensure it's functioning properly. Look for pressure consistency and check for leaks.
- If everything is running smoothly, congratulations, you've successfully repaired your pressure washer pump!

6️⃣:  Maintenance Tips

To prolong the life of your pressure washer pump and avoid frequent repairs, consider these maintenance tips:

- Use pump oil regularly to keep the internal parts lubricated.
- Flush the pump with clean water after each use to avoid debris buildup.
- Inspect seals and valves periodically for signs of wear.
- Replace worn parts at the first sign of trouble to avoid further damage.
